One down, one to go.

The Cochrane Chaos had a timely first win of the season against the Calgary Titans on Sunday, Feb. 8 to take the lead in the south final of the Alberta Junior Female Hockey League (AJFHL).

The Chaos took a 2-1 lead into the second, kept a one-goal margin in the second, and fended off a comeback for the win.

The Titans fought back to tie the game 3-3 in the third. With about two minutes remaining, the Chaos capitalized on a two-on-one. Faith Gette fed the puck to an open Colbi Brown who wrinkled the mesh. A couple of late penalties by the Titans hurt any chance of getting an equalizer.

Chaos head coach Derek Loomer says the players were thrilled with the win, but know there's nothing to celebrate yet.

"When the buzzer sounded they were very happy, but also at the same time they know that's only Game One," says Loomer. "We head into this weekend for Game Two of the best-of-three. Hopefully, we can finish it there, and if not, go into Sunday."

The Chaos and Titans have had intense matchups all season. In most cases, the winner was determined by a single goal.

This time, things went in favour of the Chaos.

"It's been a matter of bounces all year, and they seemed to get them all. Yesterday we got a couple of bounces and that was the difference. So we have to make our bounces on Friday."

He's expecting it to be an even tougher game with the Titans on their hind legs.

Game time is 7:45 in Totem One of the SLS Family Sports Centre.

The winner will advance to the provincial final against the team emerging from the northern final.

The Chaos have appeared in the last two provincial finals and were a south division finalist in their first season in the league.
