Cochrane basketball players continue to contribute to the success of the Red Jackets Premier Girls Club Basketball.

Only one tournament remains for two of the club's three teams to round out of the season. All of their Premier 1, Premier 2 and Premier teams have won tournaments along the course of the spring tournament season.

The Red Jacket's Premier 1 high school team won one B division championship. the Premier 2 U14 team has claimed two U14 A division tournament championships and the Premier 3 U14 team has won one. Twelve Cochrane area female athletes play on the club's teams.

Overall, the club's teams combine to have a 28-16 record on the season, says Randy Peron, president and head instructor of the program. Peron is also the long-time coach of the Cochrane Cobras senior girls basketball team.

The program is designed to enhance the basketball skills of female players. Peron says it continues to meet this aspiration.

"The development of each player over the season has been outstanding, which is leading to more team success," says Peron.

After this weekend's tournament, Peron will be helping prepare Alberta's U15 Girls team for the nationals being held in Victoria, B.C. from Aug. 5 to 10.

In February, Peron was named assistant coach for the team. It is the eighth time he has coached Alberta teams. Last year, he helped coach the U15 boys to a fourth-place finish in the Kamloops, AB national tournament.
