It is the month of love and CochraneNow is on the search for Cochrane’s Sweetest Couple.

Check out the love story of Riley and Kellen.

“Kellen and I met through friends - they invited us over for dinner (in somewhat of a blind date scenario). I had given up on dating, but my friend promised me that Kellen was a great guy and worth meeting. She was right! On January 17th, 2021 it was our 3rd anniversary of dating. In the last three years, we have been through a lot together, including me going back to University for a two-year after degree and now the pandemic. Kellen has also had to accept living with a cat ... my rescue Lynxie. When the pandemic first hit, we decided to get a puppy together. Manuka is 11 months old now - a sweet, intelligent, and energetic chocolate lab.

On Sunday, January 17th, Kellen kept insisting that we go on a walk together (without the puppy). I was like "Nah, let’s bring the dog”. I didn't understand why we would go on a walk to the river without Manuka. Kellen was very eager to go on a walk that day, asking many times. I even made him wait while I cleaned the house. I should have known something was up! We finally left the house to go on our walk; we started at the Cochrane Ranche and made our way to the Bow River. It was a beautiful day for January, sunny and warm! When we arrived at the river, Kellen started setting up his new tripod for his iPhone that he was dying to use. I was oblivious about what was going to happen next. Clearly ... because I was wearing a fanny pack with dog treats in it. When everything was set up, I brought the dog over and got her to sit (our dog is very photogenic). As we were smiling into the camera, Kellen suddenly got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was in shock! The picture is from after I said YES!!!

It was special that Manuka was with us for the proposal and that we were by the river in Cochrane. I love going on walks by the river. It was great calling our family members later that afternoon and sharing our joy and excitement with them. This pandemic has been so emotionally draining and hard on everyone. I am so thankful to have a fiance that I can rely on and ride out the tough times with. When I look at this picture of our engagement, I think of love, happiness, resiliency, hope, and a bright future together.”
