Cochrane's Walmart Superstore is no longer listed under a COVID outbreak status.

After seven weeks of actively reporting a COVID-19 Outbreak, the local Walmart has been cleared.

On April 27 Walmart Canada's Manager of Corporate Affairs, Felicia Fefer confirmed the outbreak at store # 1135, with 18 active cases. The store was placed on the  Alberta Health Services (AHS) Outbreak Status Map and according to Walmart Canada, they had amped up safety precautions, including reducing store hours.

On May 5, Fefer confirmed an additional five associates had tested positive for the virus, and she stated that the company remained in close contact with public health officials.

Many Cochranites have expressed concern over the past seven weeks and questioned the logic behind big-box stores staying open under outbreak status when many small businesses have been hit with multiple closures.

Now, officially off the AHS Outbreak Status Map, the local Walmart is back to operating under regular store hours, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
