The long adult soccer hiatus has come to an end with players kicking off their outdoor season on Monday night.

"We've been under restrictions since November so nobody's been playing soccer," says club administrator Kat Dennis. "We're really excited to get back out there and kick the ball around."

The Rangers have introduced a recreational coed program for men and women of all skill levels.

"We've talked about it for a few years now, and so we thought this was the year to do it."

It's being held every Thursday night. Registration is required, but it is casual play.

"If you're on holiday or you can't make it one week, it's no big deal. It's kind of a scrimmage format."

She says if it is successful, the club will consider adding coed to their indoor schedule.

Registration officially closed for all programs last Friday, but some spots remain available for late registrants.

Right now, the men's Tuesday night slot is full, but there is room for a few more players on Wednesday night.

Registration also remains open for women's recreational and competitive play.

Dennis says they are hoping to field both an open and 40-plus women's team to compete against Calgary area clubs.

There won't be competitive men's teams, but they are expected to return next season.

The Rangers Cup also won't be held this season. The popular fall tournament will make a triumphant return in 2022.

The Rangers season continues until Sept. 17.
