Banff- Airdrie Member of Parliament Blake Richards had a good turnout at his four round table discussions throughout the riding.

MP Richards says community members are frustrated; lack of federal support, increased taxes, and talk of phasing out oil sands are all top of mind concerns.

"People are really upset and angry right now, they are asking me to speak up and be their voice. I can assure everyone that is exactly what I will be doing."

Richards says the pre-budget consultations brought out more people than normal; no matter whether Richards was in Banff or Airdrie, community members concerns were the same.

"Sometimes it can be different from community to community because there is different economic realities but right now it was a very unified message, very consistent, people are really concerned right now."

Richards is still accepting feedback and would love for people to share their thoughts and concerns on his webpage www.blakerichards.ca.

"I really encourage people to get in there, have their chance to have their concerns put forward and that is the feedback I will take, that is what warrants what I do. For me to be a proper voice for our constituents I need to hear your feedback."

Some ideas that came out of the discussion were fairly good;  putting together balanced budget legislation into constitution so that the government can't spend out of control or maybe the budget needs to become more strict and Justin Trudeau will need to follow the budget that was set for him or face the consequences. Another thought centered around oil and the fact that we purchase oil from out of country with far less environmental standards when in fact the government could be promoting the environmental safety of our own oil.

To hear of the government phasing out oil sands infuriates MP Richards.

"Like father like son; Pierre Trudeau with the National Energy Program he devastated the economy in this province and I can tell you it just seems like Justin Trudeau is trying to repeat history and be just like his dad, and I can tell you Albertans are not going to take it."

With Trudeau coming to Calgary in a week's time, Richards says he won't be surprised of a rough reception.

"People are angry and rightfully so, that's our bread and butter. Frankly our energy industry is far more environmentally responsible than almost anywhere else in the world, so if he thinks he's doing the environment any favours by disadvantaging our industry he is wrong on that. He is doing nothing to help our economy nor our environment."

MP Richards says if things don't turn around soon things will get progressively worse. With people being off work for some time and not much prospect in returning all industries suffer including retail/restaurants.

"There are so many side effects of the suffrage people are dealing with right now, we have to try to prevent it because we owe that to people."

Richards will take concerns forward to the Finance Minister.
