We're just days away from Cochrane Light Up 2021, and there's still time to get involved in this year's event that kicks off on Saturday.

The annual event has been bringing Cochranites together since 1984 and it has been a seasonal staple to ring in the holiday season.

Light Up Organizer, Stephenie Shelstad says there are still some sponsorship opportunities for local businesses to have their name displayed in lights.

"We are sponsoring out the lampposts this year," explains Shelstad. "We have 22 lampposts that are involved in the light show, so if businesses are interested they can send an email and I will send them out the sponsorship package and you'll get your logo put on the post for the whole month of the show."

The unique advertising opportunity will allow participating businesses to have their logo seen throughout the festive season, but Shelstad says that the spots are filling up quickly.

"It's $250 a pole and we only have eight or nine left," explains Shelstad. "They're getting less and less so let's try and get it into me as soon as possible so we can get your signs made."

To sponsor a lamppost this year, local business owners can email cochranelightup@gmail.com. Shelstad says that much like last year, this year's event will be held virtually and live-streamed.

"It's happening this Saturday [December 4] at 5:00 [p.m.]," explains Shelstad. "We're going to be going live. We will be streaming it on Youtube and we're going to get that link up on our website and Facebook page."

Shelstad says they are looking forward to having community-wide participation again this year, and there will be opportunities for Cochrane residents to be highlighted.

During the early planning stages of this year's Light Up event, the future was looking dim, but thanks to a generous $15,000 donation from Home Treasures Cochranites can once again look forward to an even bigger and better show this year.

For COVID-19 health and safety reasons, organizers are asking residents not to attend the kick-off in person. The ten-minute light show will run every evening from 5 to 10 p.m. right up until January 8, 2022.
