After over a year and a half and hundreds of regular COVID-19 updates, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Hinshaw provided the last regular update today (Tuesday, June 29).

She spoke about the road ahead, “We are on the cusp of not only removing many restrictions but also opening up our social circles, businesses, and personal lives. Of course, while cases are dropping and spread is declining, COVID-19 is not going away completely. It remains a potentially serious illness that we must keep respecting. As we move into Stage 3, we will continue to offer testing to everyone with symptoms as we monitor the impact of changes.”

Dr. Hinshaw was able to end the ritual on a positive note while delivering encouraging COVID-19 numbers.

The numbers for Tuesday, June 29 were as follows:

There were 61 new cases reported in the past 24 hours with a positivity rate of 1.6 per cent.

There are 170 people in the hospital with COVID-19 and 36 of those are in the ICU.

Sadly, another four deaths have been reported bringing the total in the province to 2,299.

There are 1,132 active cases in the province, the lowest total since August 26, 2020.

Rocky View Counting accounts for 11 of the total case count and Cochrane has now dropped to two active cases of COVID-19.
