What a difference a year can make.

Cochrane's Dillon Dube is sure making his presence known this year as part of the Flames line up.

Dube was called up in October from the American Hockey League’s Stockton Heat, the feeder team for the Flames, after several regulars experienced injuries.

It wasn’t his first stint in the NHL. Dube had a great showing during the Flames exhibition play in 2018-2019, but as things got more intense he suffered a few injuries and it took a bit of wind out of his sails.

He played 25 games last season with Calgary scoring just one goal and adding four assists.

This year, his performance has greatly improved.

Dube has played 26 games so far in the 2019-2020 season. In those games, he’s scored four goals including a game-winning goal in a shootout with the Minnesota Wild, and been credited with six assists.

His shot percentage is up to 12.1 per cent from just 4.5 per cent last season. Dube is taking more shots on net with 33 recorded so far, compared to 22 the last time around.

As for whether or not Dube will stay on with the Flames or be signed to any kind of contract is unknown, but he’s certainly making his presence known on the ice and fighting for the opportunity.

He is expected to return to the Flames lineup following the All-Star break.
