After almost two years of performing in front of a screen, Cochrane dancers are thrilled to be performing for an audience once again.

Snap Dance Studios is kicking off the holiday season with The Nutcracker.

Courtney Sproule, Founder and CEO with Snap Dance Studios says they've been planning for this production for quite some time.

"We've actually been working on this since last spring because just coming up with what classes are going to be in it and which parts and which props and where it's going to be held, lots of pre-planning goes into it."

The lead characters started rehearsing in the summer and the rest of the dancers have been practicing since September.

It's going to be a large production with approximately 100 dancers hitting the stage.

Sproule says this performance will be different than the typical ballet you usually see with The Nutcracker.

"There's a couple of key differences that we are just so thrilled about. It's narrated so you really understand what's happening in the story as it goes along, so that's a really big key because I know when I've seen The Nutcracker before I kind of wasn't sure really what was going on. And it's not just a ballet, it's tap, jazz, hip hop, ballet, contemporary, acro so we've got all these different types of dance in it."

A Multimedia component will be used so there will be video on the side to compliment what's going on the stage.

"You know it's really been a really difficult journey through COVID for everyone I think and we always got our dancers to the stage, and this time I think the exciting piece is that they have this audience because we've been missing that the last few performances, it's been virtually broadcast to their parents. The kids are just abuzz at the studio to be apart of this and to have an audience, so we're really hoping the Cochrane community will come out and support us."
