Cochrane school trustee Fiona Gilbert was named vice-chair of the Rocky View School Board of Trustees, Nov. 2, during its organizational meeting.

Her election came by acclamation, as did that of new chair Airdrie trustee Todd Brand.

Brand previously served as vice-chair for all four years of his first term and now fills a position vacated by former chair Colleen Munro, who did not seek re-election to the board.

Brand said the appointment was an honour and was also delighted to see Gilbert accept the nomination as vice-chair.

"I was very pleased that Trustee Gilbert came on as the vice-chair. I have a lot of confidence in her and I know she'll be able to support me well in this position. My early feeling is we have a really good board to work with here, and I'm excited to serve as chair."

Gilbert appreciates the support from Brand and the other trustees and says the board is all about working as a team.

"I'm honoured to get the sense of support from the other trustees here. We are a new team of trustees and as a board here, and I feel privileged to be able to be a part of the leadership team of our board. Honestly, we all work together, we're part of a team, so I think we can do great things as we all work together."

The appointments are for a one-year period until the next fall's annual organizational meeting.

Trustees were also appointed to various committees and boards during the organizational meeting.
