The new roster of the Cochrane Generals will be lacing up tonight for their first game of the 2020-21 season of the Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL).

The junior team is on the road in Vulcan tonight to take on the Lomond Lakers before returning to Cochrane on Sunday for their season home opener, also against the Lakers.

Gens head coach Kurtis Jones says there is no doubt adjustments will be made as the play progresses.

"Everyone has to get used to playing the game again, so it will be a test for the players and a test for coaching staff to get everything organized and get everything ready to fly for the season."

The team includes 16 veterans and nine new faces. Some of the newbies aren't brand new to the HJHL. They include players who previously played for Medicine Hat, High River, and Strathmore.

Davyn LaRocke will be making his first start for the Gens tonight. LaRoche backstopped the High River Flyers for 22 regular games last season and had eight playoff appearances.

Veteran Gens goalie Erik Garber will get the start in the home opener Sunday at 3:15 p.m. at the Cochrane Arena.

Since late last week, there has been a change in COVID-19 restrictions. A rule of a maximum of 100 spectators has been reinstated and tickets are now available through the Cochrane Generals website.

After this weekend, the Gens and Lakers match up for two more games. The Gens are on the road Nov. 7 and return to Cochrane on Nov. 8.

Following a two-week COVID break, the Gens start a series against the Coaldale Copperheads. The first game is on Nov. 22 at the Cochrane Arena.

The team is currently offering season tickets. You can find out more details here.
