This Saturday (June 29) you can get a jumpstart on biking by donating to Canadian Tire's Jumpstart Charity.

Rob Hatch, Owner of Cochrane Canadian Tire as well as a Board Member for Jumpstart Charities, says they are bringing in the experts and firing up the grill to ensure all kids get a right to play if they want to.

This is the 6th or the 7th year that the Cochrane store has held this event and it always draws a great crowd, shares Hatch. “All the money goes to Jumpstart; we are hoping to raise 2,000 dollars between the barbeque and customer donations that day.

With June being Jumpstart month, Hatch is hoping he can break some records. “This year our goal for Jumpstart month is to raise 15,000 dollars that will stay in town and we are just over $10,000 now.”

The impact Jumpstart can have on kids and their families can be life-changing, says Hatch. “We hear from parents that getting kid active in sport, getting them socialized, getting them out there and feeling like they are part of something builds better character, better Canadians, and better people. We have seen that through the Jumpstart program, in fact, nationally we have just hit two million kids helped since we launched in 2005.”

Giving thanks to Jumpstart partnering organizations, Hatch shares it is always incredible to see so many come together for a common goal. “It is quite remarkable to think about the organizations that work with us not only in town here but across the country, and together we are all moving towards this goal of a fully inclusive Canada where every kid will get a chance and won’t be denied.”

In Cochrane alone, the Jumpstart Charity has supported well over 2,000 young people and has put back over 300,000 dollars into our local community since 2011. While events like the 'Free Bike Tune-Up' being held tomorrow are fantastic, Hatch says donations are gratefully accepted any day. “We will take a donation at any time, but I just want everyone to know that guaranteed one hundred percent of your donation stays here in Cochrane to help Cochrane families.”

The core Jumpstart program helps kids be active through a number of different streams:

  • It will fund a child up to $300 to participate in an activity.
  • It will fund equipment, transportation, or registration.
  • It funds community development larger programs where kids can participate in a day long or weekend fun activities.

The barbeque starts at 11 am on Saturday, June 29th, and the will be serving up hamburgers, hotdogs, and smokies.

“Cochrane is a generous place and we are very fortunate. It is an aware community, they understand there are needs out there, and it is a giving community," says Hatch. “The top fundraising store during Jumpstart month there is a 20,000 award that would go to our local Jumpstart chapter. There are other stores competing and last year the store that won was close to 20,000 dollars raised, but we think we can get there, so we’re going to try.”

You can bring your bike to Canadian Tire anytime from 11 in the morning to 3 in the afternoon or grab a bite to eat for lunch and help support an amazing cause.1
