With the uptick of bear activity in our area over the past month, Officials from Alberta Parks and Fish and Wildlife are reiterating the importance of keeping bear spray handy.

With that in mind, if you use the Sabre or Frontiersman brand of bear spray on your outdoor adventures you may need to return them.

Health Canada has issued a recall following reports of some canisters not spraying properly.

So far there haven't been any injuries reported in relation to the recall or the malfunctioning of the spray canisters, however, officials say that a faulty spray nozzle could lead to an extremely dangerous encounter for outdoor enthusiasts.

You can find the list of affected products, on  Health Canada’s website.

Health Canada says that the affected products can be identified by yellow nozzles and the following expiration dates:

  • March 2024
  • August 2024
  • September 2024
  • October 2024
  • November 2024
  • December 2024

Officials are reminding consumers to read labels before using pesticides and follow the instructions. They say that if you are in possession of any of the recalled sprays, you should immediately return the products for a replacement or a refund.
