The next few days are expected to be scorching hot across Southern Alberta, and there's a good chance that Cochrane could break a 50-year old weather record today (Wednesday, June 2). 

The highest ever recorded temperature for Cochrane was 30.6 degrees, which was recorded back in 1970, and Cochrane is forecast to reach daily highs of 30 degrees Celsius for the next two days.

Environment Canada has issued a Heat Warning for the following areas:

  • Rocky View Co. near Cochrane
  • Mountain View Co. near Carstairs and Stirlingville
  • Mountain View Co. near Cremona and Water Valley
  • Mountain View Co. near Olds and Didsbury
  • Mountain View Co. near Sundre
  • Rocky View Co. near Airdrie and Crossfield
  • Rocky View Co. near Bottrel and Madden

Heat warnings are issued when extremely high temperatures are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat-related ailments including heat stroke and heat exhaustion.  

Weather experts are strongly advising residents to consider rescheduling prolonged outdoor activities, take frequent breaks from the heat and drink plenty of water. 

Residents are also reminded to double-check for children and pets before exiting their vehicle.
