The gas tax has returned to Canada after nearly two years without it. The tax returns on the same day as the carbon tax rise.

Some gas stations in Cochrane are reported to have hiked gas prices to $1.67 per litre for regular gas

In Cochrane and several surrounding areas gas prices already saw a major hike last week when they increased 6 cents.

And now the fuel tax will increase 4 cents bringing the total tax amount back to 13 cents.

The carbon tax is increasing to $80 per tonne which is a $15 increase from the $65 we were sitting at. The amount per tonne will increase annually until 2030 when it will hit $170 per.

The Federal government's idea behind increasing the tax is that it will decrease emissions and generate innovation.
