Will Cochrane be among the communities in line for a new school in the Alberta government's 2024 budget?

Shortly after 11 a.m. today we should know. Premier Danielle Smith, Education minister Demetrios Nicolaides, and Infrastructure minister Peter Guthrie have called a press conference to provide an update on what school projects will be included in the 2024 budget.

The Alberta budget released yesterday calls for $1.9 billion in capital funding over the next three years for planning, design or construction of new and modernized school projects across the province. This includes $681 million in new funding for 43 priority projects that will create 35,000 new or modernized student spaces.

In last year's budget, a new Cochrane school was included as a pre-planning project in the budget. The announcement was met with disappointment by Rocky View School officials and Cochrane residents.
