Cochranites were treated to an early dose of summer with temperatures above the 20-degree mark for four days straight, and yesterday our temperatures were inching closer to 30-degrees.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist, Alysa Pederson our May heatwave was about 10 degrees hotter than the typical norms.

"Typically our normal for this time of year is around 15 degrees," says Pederson. "Spring is kind of like -- you can hit a lightswitch and it will be snow or you can hit a lightswitch the other way and it will be summer. That's kind of what we had this past weekend."

Unfortunately, those summer-like temperatures are back in our rearview. Pederson says that we're back to more seasonal temperatures today, right before the lightswitch flips again.

"We're having a system move through and it's going to drop the temperatures by about 10 degrees," says Pederson. "Some showers and possibly even some snow could hit the Cochrane area on Wednesday morning and should be showery conditions through the day."

Cochranites have been known to brave all kinds of weather conditions for their May, long weekend camping adventures. So, what can we expect this Victoria Day weekend?

"It looks like we get into a little bit of a warm-up," says Pederson. "Just back to normal temperatures as we head into the late week and May long weekend."

There's still time for the forecast to change before the weekend hits, but I think we can all agree that a dry May-long with seasonal norms sounds pretty okay.
