Junior 'A' and Jr. 'B' tier 2 lacrosse tournaments are being hosted at the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre this weekend for teams from Alberta, Saskatchewan, and B.C.

Four Jr. A teams kick off their tournament on Thursday night with the Calgary Mounties facing the Okotoks Raiders at 6 p.m. and St. Albert Miners matching up against the Saskatchewan SWAT at 9 p.m. The tournament wraps up on Sunday afternoon.

Cochrane's Nathan Lam and Christian Scott play for the Mounties.

The Rockyview Rage tier 2 Jr. B. will be facing seven teams in round-robin play. The opening game is Friday at 3 p.m. against the Calgary Wranglers. Playoffs start Sunday at 8 a.m. and wrap up shortly after 1 p.m.

There are several Cochrane players on the Rage.

Unlike the tier 1 Jr. B Silvertips, the Rage has extended its exhibition season into August. They wrap up the season tonight in Calgary against the Wranglers.

Kent Proctor, general manager and assistant coach, says their players are older than when they last played and have been spending the exhibition season developing their skills.

Silvertips alumni Tanner Lam was named head coach, and Proctor says he's been a great addition to the club.

"We're pretty competitive. I don't think there's really been a game that we've played that we couldn't have won. Every game has been closed. It's nice to get back and see the natural progressions from age of players and such."

He says the Rage opted to step forward to host the season-ending tournament.

"It's a good turnout. It should be a lot of fun, and a great way to wind up the return to lacrosse. I think the boys are looking forward to it, so it will be good to play in our own barn and host a decent tournament."
