Restaurants across the province are preparing for yet another closure, this time around its patio seating.

For the past month, Alberta restaurants have been relying on their patios as the only way to serve customers in person, and bring in some extra money.

Here in Cochrane, Town officials created an expedited approval process for outdoor patios, and we began to see patios popping up throughout the community.

Jag Thind is the Owner of Mehtab East Indian Cusine here in Cochrane, and he says that they just got their patio up and running, and now it's time to shut it down.

"It's not even two weeks basically," says Thind. "It took some time to get confirmation from the landlord and all those formalities and since then the weather hasn't been that great."

Local restaurants can serve customers on their patios for two more days and unfortunately, Cochrane's weather forecast still isn't working in their favour.

Despite the challenges this past year has presented for his own business, Thind has continued to give back to the Cochrane community. This weekend Mehtab is donating a portion from all meals purchased to the local Boys and Girls Club.

"Every dish somebody orders, it's going to be $1.00 going to the Boys & Girls Club," says Thind. "Friday, Saturday and Sunday all three days."

Back in February Jag and the folks at Mehtab ran a similar initiative in support of the Activettes, and in turn, they raised $500 to aid the food bank.

While the food and beverage industry has been hard hit this year, Jag continues to wear a smile under his face mask and he's encouraging all Cochranites to do the same.

"Even under your mask people can still see those feelings that you're smiling and saying hello," says Thind. "Everybody's trying to do the best they can. Nowadays it's so unpredictable --everything is. Just keep smiling."

If the weather holds up, Mehtab's patio will operate until the end of business Sunday.

After that, Mehtab will continue to operate for take-out, delivery and curbside pick-up from Sunday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturdays from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
