There's a growing buzz around the release of the first album of Smoking Aces in seven years.

Long-time fans and new ones alike will be able to purchase a copy this Saturday, Oct. 22 at Cochrane Save-On-Foods from about 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. They'll also be copies of their previous three albums available.

While the band was on an extended break, John White says he continued to write and this new album includes 11 of those songs.

Unlike previous albums, this one doesn't stick to the 12-bar blues they have recorded in the past. He likes the diversity of genres it offers.

"You know, you get so many albums these days and each track sounds the same almost as the one before, and by the time you get to track five, you're thinking, why did I buy the album? I could have just bought the single. What we tried to do on this one is to mix it up so that each track comes as a bit of a surprise after the one before, so there are no two in exactly the same genre as the one before."

The original art for the cover was created by Jessica Ingard, of J Bird Designs here in Cochrane.

White had considered five different names before settling on "Dream Weaver," which is one of the tracks on the album.

"I don't know whether it's the fact that I'm getting older, whether I dream more or I just seem to remember my dreams more. I came up with the concept that as I'm getting older, an imaginary person gets into my brain at night and weaves the dreams for me. That's the basis of that song."
