The USA is Canada’s biggest trade partner and ally and MP Blake Richards says it’s our government’s responsibility to work with whoever the people there elect.

Despite the continuing drama south of the border as it relates to the US election, there will be a new administration with Joe Biden being considered the president-elect.

“We’re always prepared, and we should always be prepared as Canadians to work with whoever the winner of an election is,” said the Banff-Airdrie MP. “So I’m looking forward to seeing what the new administration brings and how we can work together for Canadian interests.”

One of the issues Richards said he will be keeping a close eye on is oil and gas.

“I think a lot of people are wanting to see what happens with the Keystone XL Pipeline coming out of the election. I think it’s really hard to say at this point, I’ve heard a lot of speculation one way or another, I think we need to see how this plays out,” he explained. “It will be on our government in Alberta, our federal government should be doing the same, and advocating for our best interests.”

For those who are interested in politics, Richards adds the election and the ensuing events south of the border certainly have made it one of the most interesting elections to watch in recent history.
