Right now, the Cochrane and District Horticultural Society is selling plants and other gardening supplies in support of the Cochrane Public Library's gardening lending library, but you have to move quickly to make a purchase.

The cutoff to purchase items in the virtual Spring Plant and Seed Fundraiser is tonight, Friday, May 28, at 9 p.m.

Event organizer Lynda Sweet says they started with over 300 items, including pods, annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs, containers, and house plants. There's also a selection of books on an assortment of gardening topics.

There are many bargains to be found, and most items are priced in the $1 to $5 range.

Sweet says the prices have been kept low to encourage people to purchase items to help support the gardening program at the Cochrane Public Library.

Items available for purchase can be found on the Cochrane & District Horticultural Society-Cochrane's Local Garden Club Facebook page. Click here to access.

To arrange a purchase, send a private message. You'll then be contacted to arrange a pick up time on Saturday.

COVID-19 health protocols are being strictly followed.

Sweet says the society received a good response to their first such sale in the fall and decided to make it a semi-annual event. The next one will be held this fall and, if all goes well, it will be an in-person event.

Established in 2005, the Horticultural Society unifies local gardeners in their love of gardening. It serves Cochrane and the surrounding district with varied activities focused on education and sharing expertise and experience for gardening in Hardiness Zone 2A and 2B with Chinook conditions.
