The new Protective Services Building currently under construction remains within its $23 million budget and is on schedule to be completed in the summer of 2023.

On Mar. 14, Stacey Loe, the town's executive director of Protective and Community Services, told council the project is expected to be completed before summer. Once it nears substantial completion, the RCMP takes over the building and doesn't allow any other parties access while they set up their security systems and spaces.

The $23 million includes contingencies and funds for furniture, fixtures and equipment (FFE).

Loe says the intention is to bring in the project under $22 million.

Town administration had asked council to confirm the total budget for the building by resolution to ensure all audit requirements are appropriately addressed. It was originally recorded in the 2020-2022 town budget as having a $19 million price tag with the notation that contingencies and FFE had not been included.
