Cochrane RCMP is asking the public to be vigilant of suspicious activity in Rocky View County, near Cochrane.

The RCMP report there has been a rash of break and enters into homes over the past month where jewellery and other items of value had been stolen. In some cases, houses under construction have been broken into and electrical wire stolen.

“Cochrane RCMP is asking that members of the community please call police if they see any suspicious vehicles or people," states Cst. Clayton Gelinas. "If there is a crime in progress, call 9-1-1."

Cst. Gelinas provides some tips on how to keep your place safe:

  • Before you leave, check the doors and windows
  • Make your place lived in, don’t advertise with a dark home
  • Have someone come and check on your place
  • Set timers on lights outside of your home
  • Invest in a security system with cameras
  • Make sure the snow is removed from your property
