Cochrane RCMP and CP Police Service are jointly investigating a fatality near the tracks under the bridge at the 1A/22.

A call came into RCMP around 8:30 am from CP Rail that an adult male was observed laying adjacent to the tracks and at this time there is no confirmation as to how the male passed or his identity.

RCMP, Corporal Troy Savinkoff says at this point in time it is not known if a train was involved in the man's passing or not. "We still haven't been able to conclusively say how this male became near the tracks and how he was killed. He was obviously located close to the tracks, however, we still haven't confirmed whether a train was directly related to his passing or not. Our original witness to the file was one of the train conductors who saw him laying adjacent to the tracks as the train was approaching."

One of the methods used to investigate the fatality will be to pull camera footage from the trains to see if it identifies a cause.

Corporal Savinkoff shares they are hoping to be able to identify the deceased male, believed to be under 30 years old, later this morning. "It is too early to make any determination, he didn't have any ID on him so we are seeing if we can get it through fingerprinting."

As details are released we will update the story.
