A lacrosse player from Cochrane and two from Airdrie are overjoyed after winning the gold medal at the National Midget Lacrosse Championships this weekend in Calgary.

Cochrane's Nathan Lam and Cade Totter and Sean Kriwokon, of Airdrie, represented the Rocky View Rage on Team Alberta that won it's second straight national championship by defeating Ontario, 7-2, in the gold medal game, Aug. 18.

For Lam, being part of a team that brought home gold for Alberta is special.

"To represent your community in something bigger than not only Cochrane, not only Airdrie, but Alberta as a whole is awesome", adds Lam.

"It's an incredible feeling," says Lam. "We worked all summer, we've all been working hard and just to see it pay off is amazing."

Goaltender Rotter says the final seconds of the game were a complete blur until the buzzer sounded and the team embraced him.

"It didn't feel real. It felt like a dream. It happened last year but this year it didn't feel real."

For all of them, this championship boosts their careers and a chance to move on.

"It's great but we got to keep working hard and going into junior. Nothing changes for us," says Lam,

"All the Junior A scouts will want us. They all love hearing that we're National Champions, they all want us," adds Rotter.

For Kriwokon, the experience was so overwhelming, there was only one way for him to describe it.

"It was great!"
