The RCMP Major Crimes Unit has made an arrest in relation to a homicide that took place outside of Cochrane over a year ago.

The body of twenty-four-year-old Sarah Rabik of Calgary was found on Highway 8 Southeast of Cochrane on February 26, 2020.

RCMP, Corporal Deanna Fontaine says that with assistance from Calgary Police Services Homicide, Missing Persons, and Tech Crimes Units, a 60-year-old Calgary woman has been charged with multiple offences."

"On June 25, Alberta RCMP Major Crimes arrested Debora Joyce Rabik of Calgary," says Fontaine. "She is charged with second-degree murder and indignity to human remains in the death of 24-year-old Sarah Rabik, also from Calgary."

Corporal Fontaine has confirmed that the victim and accused are related, but since the matter is before the courts, the exact relationship is not being confirmed by officials. According to Sarah's obituary, Debora Rabik is listed as Sarah's mother.

"I can't speak any further to how," explains Fontaine. "That would constitute part of the investigation and what is now before the courts, but they are related."

Following a judicial hearing, Debora Rabik was remanded into custody and she is scheduled to appear in Cochrane Provincial Court tomorrow, Tuesday, June 29, 2021.

As this matter is now before the courts, no further details will be provided.
