Tomorrow families will find out exactly what the upcoming school year looks like for the Rocky View Schools (RVS) division.

The Board of Trustees has called a special meeting scheduled for August 26, to discuss the province's 2021-2022 School Year Plan.

In a letter to parents last week, RVS Board Chair, Fiona Gilbert and Superintendent of Schools, Greg Luterbach said the division was reviewing the plan laid out by the Alberta Government and developing a local RVS plan to then be finalized by the Board of Trustees.

The province has outlined a near-normal return to school for the fall and has stated that they aren't renewing the mandatory mask mandate provincially.

While the provincial face-covering mandate has been lifted across Alberta, both the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) and Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD) announced that they will continue to make masks mandatory this fall.

Last year all Grade 4 - 12 students across the province were required to wear masks to school, and it was optional for Kindergarten to Grade 3 students. Both CBE and CCSD have extended that policy this year, and it will no longer be optional for students in those lower grades.

Tomorrow we'll find out whether the Rocky View Schools Division will follow suit. The Board of Trustees will hold their special meeting at 9 a.m.
