A rollover just off Hwy. 1 on the Stoney Nakoda Nation has claimed the life of a 26-year old Stoney Nakoda woman.

The other two people in the vehicle only sustained minor injuries.

Cpl. Troy Savinoff, of the Cochrane RCMP, says officers were responding to a disturbance in the area on July 29 when they came across the rollover at about 9:30 p.m.

"The vehicle had just recently rolled and three occupants were ejected out of the vehicle and unfortunately one of the occupants of the vehicle was deceased upon arrival."

Cpl. Savinoff says the collision is under investigation and few details are available at this time.

That investigation will help determine whether the occupants were wearing seat belts. All three were ejected in the rollover.

"In circumstances like a rollover, these are the cases where seatbelts can have the most effect. Rollovers can be very dangerous collisions if the occupants aren't wearing seat belts."

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has further information are encouraged to call the Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000.
