After several weeks of dry conditions across the province, Albertans welcomed the rain with open arms today,

The moisture has lessened the fire risk in Rocky View county and the previously implemented Fire Ban has been downgraded to an advisory.

While Rocky View County isn’t currently in extreme fire danger at this time, officials say that high-risk conditions remain in the area. Burning permits are still suspended and burning is banned, with the following exceptions:

  • Household fireplaces
  • Incinerators (for farm and acreage use)
  • Camp stoves
  • Barbecues (charcoal briquettes, propane, or natural gas)
  • Propane/natural gas fire pit
  • Recreational campfires (approved burn pit 24” in diameter or less)
  • Chimeneas
  • Fires contained within approved facilities and appliances in designated camping and recreational areas

Residents are urged to use their good judgement, as the advisory will remain in effect as long as high-risk conditions continue in the surrounding areas.

Earlier today it was also reported that a large wildfire west of Cochrane near Dead Man's Flats is now listed as Under Control.
