One person has died following an avalanche at Lake Louise Ski Resort over the weekend.

According to the resort, a group of three skiers ventured into an out-of-bounds area known as West Bowl on Saturday afternoon, an area that is currently closed.

This triggered an avalanche and two skiers became buried.

Rescue crews were called to the scene and one skier who was partially buried was able to be rescued, but another skier who was fully buried did not survive.

The identity of the 22-year-old has not been released.

"None of the individuals were wearing avalanche safety equipment. Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased," said Lake Louise Ski Resort in a statement posted to its website on Sunday.

Parks Canada is investigating, along with the RCMP and the Calgary chief of the medical examiner's office.
