Cochrane has been blanketed by haze for several weeks now as smoke from wildfires in neighbouring provinces continue to blow across Alberta.

For weeks our Air Quality Health Index has been fluctuating from moderate to high risk, and now Environment Canada has once again issued a Special Air Quality Statement.

The smoke has significantly reduced visibility throughout the Town of Cochrane and residents with underlying health concerns or respiratory issues are being cautioned.

Weather experts says that the Air Quality can "fluctuate over short distances and can vary considerably hour by hour."

They warn that individuals may experience prolonged coughing, throat irritation, headaches and shortness of breath. Seniors, children and those with cardiovascular or lung disease are especially at risk.
