The sense of urgency in the play of the Cochrane Generals.could not be missed in their 3-2 overtime win over the Medicine Hat Cubs last night.

Captain Brandon Aab scored the winner at the 7:55 mark of the extra stanza from Dean Oleynk to send the team on a bus trip back to Medicine Hat tonight.

"There's been a lot of determination over the year, but today it really clicked in, especially for me and the other three guys who are 21," says Aab. "We're not ready to be done hockey. This has been our lives for the last four years."

He says that mindset was shared by the rest of the team.

"It's game-by-game now. You've got to win the next one. It was a good feeling to get this one under our belt in front of the home crowd. We want to go in there tomorrow, take a win, bring it back to Cochrane, and then advance to the next series."

The Gens controlled the fast tempo of the game and perfected a strategy to contain the rambling style of Cubs goal Dawsen Savage. Gens goalie Erik Garber made some key saves to take the wind out of the Cubs scoring punch.

Head coach Kurtis Jones said the Gens came to play.

"But we're not done yet," he says. "That's a good hockey team over there, and we've got to go. We've got to do what we did today and pick it up another step."

The Gens will be adding to their offensive punch with the return of ace forward Patrick Forde. He was relegated to watch last night's game from the stands, serving a game misconduct from an infraction late in Friday night's game.

Should the Gens win tomorrow night, the series returns to the Cochrane Arena for Game 7 on Wednesday night.
