Results are in from the RVS Satisfaction Survey and things are looking positive from a student, parent, and staff perspective.

Rocky View Schools, Superintendent Greg Luterbach says the survey is comprehensive, touching on satisfaction, Provincial achievement/Provincial exams, as well as dropout and completion rates. From student perspective, satisfaction levels met the jurisdiction's target of 80% satisfaction.

"When you look at the student pieces, generally students commented that they feel welcome at school, teachers are there to help them when they need it,  they feel safe at school and good access to technology. Those are are all positive pieces."

From the parent perspective results indicated that parents were quite pleased when rating 11 areas such as safety, engagement, literacy, and numeracy.

"When we listen to our parents again we see a theme around that they are satisfied that schools are safe,  caring, and welcoming, and that their children are engaged in learning."

Staff results fell in line with parent and student comments.

The survey gives RVS an opportunity to know the positives but also where improvements could be made.

"Students told us they are sometimes concerned around that students care for each other at their school, and that would they describe themselves as enjoying learning, and happy to be at school. From a parent perspective, they encouraged us to keep finding ways for us to keep them informed on how their child is doing in school, and from staff they give us messages back asking form more resources and support."

As far as Provincial Achievements for Grade 6 and 9 students, Luterbach says while they are seeing strong results in English/ Language Arts, social, and science- numeracy skills need improvement. Provincial Achievements compared to Grade 12 diploma results are showing strong results in all subjects.

"We are doing really well on the acceptable, but in a few spots there is some room for growth and have more students perform at that excellence level. But as I said, very good, strong results in grade 12 across the board, and if there is one area that we need to look at it is that excellence piece and for a subject area overall continues to be math."

As math curriculum is reviewed on a Provincial level, Luterbach says it will be interesting to see what kind of changes will be made.

"There has been lots of conversation around the Province around where math is going and what it needs to do . I think the new curriculum will be really interesting to see where that balance exists."

The last high note of the survey is RVS continues to have the highest completion rates and lowest dropout rates across the province.

"That again is a good sign that students at the end are getting through our system and being successful."

Luterbach says the survey is "taken seriously, not just for the sake of, and drives the system". Just over 4400 responses (28%) came in from the survey this year, and while the number may seem low, Luterbach says that number is relatively high compared to most other jurisdictions around the province.

"We thank those parents but we also encourage all parents to have this opportunity to provide us some feedback."
