Cochrane's Taylor Shields notched her first top finish of this year's Canadian Pro Rodeo Assoc. (CPRA) circuit in Stavely on May 10.

Clocking in at 13.524 seconds on Fury, Shields walked away with $2,011.60 for the win. Fury had only competed in a few futurities so far and this was her first rodeo.

"It was a big surprise, that's for sure. She's fast. I knew she was capable of it but I didn't expect it so soon."

The Shields are normally Stateside in the winter and return to Canada in March

"I started entering a couple of futurities before I came home from the States and she ran pretty well with the real top horses there so we decided to enter the futurities here," says Shields.

Shields, 22, who has been competing professionally upwards of eight years, wasn't planning on entering many rodeos this season.

"We're trying to do the futurities and a couple of rodeos along the way this year. We're trying to slow down a little bit," she says.

They may, however, enter the upcoming Airdrie Pro Rodeo, June 28-20.
