TC Energy is holding a training exercise in the Cochrane area today (Sept. 14) that may briefly impact some motorists.

As part of the exercise, there will be temporary stop-and-go roadblocks from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon to practice response procedures along Township Rd. 262 near Range Road 43, just north of the Canadian Southern Baptist Seminary and College.

Motorists will be allowed to pass the roadblock after receiving some information from first responders, and short delays may be experienced, explains Reid Fiest, TC Energy media relations specialist.

"Our teams work with different partners to organize these exercises throughout the year to make sure that in the event of something happening that we are prepared and our partners are prepared."

Cochrane residents and businesses may also notice the increased presence of first responders at the Cochrane and District Agricultural Grounds on Hwy. 1A and at the Cochrane Lions Events Centre on 5th Ave.

The entire exercise runs from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Fiest says safety is one of the core values at TC Energy. It conducted 170 emergency management program exercises along its network in 2020. The last one held in the Cochrane area was in March 2018.
