Cochrane has some great events and some are just purely 'monumental'.

The 'Monumental Tournament of Aces' will once again bring golfers, non-golfers, and wannabe golfers to the Links of GlenEagles together for some sociable, fun golf in honour of Lindsay Leigh Kimmett.

Rotarian Glen Gryzko, Chairman for the event, says there is no reason for anyone to not give the event a swing as no experience is necessary. "You can be an average or beginner golf so just enjoy yourself. It is a fun afternoon just trying to make your best swing to get a hole in one, that is why it's called the Tournament of Aces. You only need clubs that can hit around 100 yards and there is one hole that has a large prize. The third hole has a-hole-in-one prize of a car from Cochrane Toyota sponsored by Alex Baum and it is the only hole you might want to be serious on."

It's not all about golf though, three food and beverage sponsors will also be part of the game to not only highlight our great local businesses but keep golfers nourished and hydrated along the course.

While the Kimmett family is quietly involved in the background, the primary heavy lifting of the event is done by a partnership between the Rotary Club of Cochrane and Cochrane's Search and Rescue. With the two organization's working side by side the tournament has been able to continue to thrive. "We feel strongly being behind it because of what it has been able to accomplish with all the money that has come in and goes back into community projects of various kinds around Cochrane and even internationally."

This year the tournament is celebrating eleven years and besides a great day out, the event will support a great cause. "The cause is certainly something people in the community and golfers can get behind and support. Working with the Variety Club of Calgary through the Town of Cochrane and making the Centennial Park playground accessible for all is an amazing thing to add to this town."

Hoping to hit a monumental goal, a dinner and silent auction are also part of the day's activities. "We hope with everyone's help that we can hit a milestone and bring the overall funds generated from these tournaments, in their eleventh year, to an excess of one million dollars. Which would be absolutely amazing and I am sure it will happen based on history and the people that are there."

The event like usual is almost a complete sellout and this year they have crushed their sponsorship record thanks to our local business community. If you would like to come out and support the event without golfing, drop by the clubhouse around 8:15 pm and check out the amazing silent auction items up for grabs.

The Monumental Tournament of Aces Tees off shortly after 1 pm tomorrow. (September 29).
