Public Works continues to chip away at clearing streets from the massive snowfall hitting the Cochrane area over the last few weeks.

Using what they have labelled their extreme weather response plan, town crews have now been focusing on clearing cul-de-sac bulbs and have been providing advance notice to residents to remove their vehicles from the streets on the designated days.

Today they are scheduled to clean up cul-de-sacs in the Bow Ridge, Bow Meadows, Glenbow and Jumping Pound neighbourhoods.

Mayor Jeff Genung says the plan was devised in response to complaints received from residents. He says 80 per cent of the feedback has since been positive and the outpour of thanks is unprecedented.

"The staff is actually floored," says Genung. "They've never had such positive response from an initiative before."

The snow removal from the cul-de-sacs is designed to not only address immediate concerns but to help minimize the flooding and ice anticipated when the meltdown comes.

According to Environment Canada forecasts, that meltdown appears to just be around the corner. There's a 30 per cent chance of flurries today, according to their meteorologists, but after that, we should have sunny days and temperatures will return to seasonal norms on the plus side.
