Two Cochrane forwards were selected in yesterday’s WHL bantam draft.

Hunter Sawka, 14, was claimed 91st overall by the Calgary Hitmen in the fifth round.

Sawka had a 48-point season for the Edge School's bantam prep team before the season was cut short. He also dressed for one game with the Edge's 15s squad.

It was his second year of bantam hockey at the school.

Ethan Neutens, 15, was taken 180th overall in the 9th round by the Kelowna Rockets in a trade from the Prince George Cougars.

In 31 appearances with the Airdrie Xtreme, Neutens had 23 points. He also dressed for one game for the ACAvalanche  AAA minor midget team.

In his first year of bantams he played for the Bow Valley Timberwolves

Xtreme Head Coach Tyson Soloski speaks highly of Neutens play.

"He works extremely hard, both in practice and in games, and he really does deserve it because he came a long way this year," says Soloski. "He's a dominating player at both ends of the rink, and it's very cool to see him rewarded for all the work he put in this season."

Both were members of the Zone 2 team that won gold at the 2018 Alberta Winter Games.

In total, 233 players were chosen by WHL clubs, with 130 forwards, 82 defencemen and 21 goaltenders selected.
