Cochrane RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle being stolen right off a Cochrane dealership.

Constable Jennifer Brewer says on November 1, around 5 pm, a vehicle that was getting ready to be delivered to a customer was stolen.

"A green two door Dodge Dakota with a stolen Alberta license plate BVY0342 with two individuals in it had gone to a local vehicle dealership up in Riversong and stole a 2016 Red Jeep Patriot High Altitude form the lot."

While the report does not indicate whether or not keys were left in the Patriot, there was only about 20 minutes of turn around time in which the vehicle was left unattended.

"The company themselves, reviewed the surveillance and found that a male wearing a brown Carhart jacket with a hood, about 5'10, wearing jeans, and was heavyset had been the one who got into the Jeep and drove it off the lot, they were unable though to see the driver and get a description of the driver of the Dakota."

Constable Brewer says it was a very opportune crime.

"We usually don't get the complaint so quickly, they were able to call us within 20 minutes of the vehicle being taken and usually it is not that quick of turn around,. It was definitely opportune for the thieves because how often are you going to be able to right away, at a lot, get a brand new vehicle with keys close enough, that no one's going to see you take them... doesn't seem like that is something easy to do."

If you see these vehicles occupied, RCMP say do not approach the drivers but call 911 instead. If the vehicles are unoccupied call the complaint line at 403-932-2211 and do not disturb the scene.
