An 81 year old woman was charged for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk shortly after 11 today (May 2).

RCMP Corporal Mel Calahasen says the senior driver never saw the pedestrian as she was turning south onto 5th Avenue from Glenbow Drive.

Calahasen says the female pedestrian was sent to hospital for precautionary measures.

"Basically when she was struck she went over the top of the vehicle and rolled over to the back and the side. When she was examined by the ambulance on site she was complaining of some pain to her neck and her back."

RCMP have no further updates on her condition.

The elderly driver was shaken up and received a $776 ticket and Calahasen believes it carries 5 demerits.
