Zone 2 soccer teams, that include coaches and players from Cochrane and area, went undefeated today in the first day of play in the Alberta Summer Games.
In their second and more challenging matchup, they faced the Sunny South, Zone 1, who had beaten Calgary (Zone 3) earlier in the day. Zone 2 opened the scoring and Calgary responded. It continued that way until the game was tied 3-3. With less than 10 minutes remaining Zone 2 got the winning.
The U13 Boys team only had one matchup in day one, facing Parkland, Zone 4, that includes Red Deer. They took a 5-1 lead in the second half. Parkland attempted to rally, but in the end, both teams scored two in the second half to give Zone 2 a 7-3 win.
Saturday the boys face both the South and Calgary to finish their round robin and the Girls take on Calgary. How they place in the round-robin will determine the medal matchups on Sunday.
