The AC Avalanche 'AAA' midget team is at home this afternoon at the SLS Family Sports Centre in their only game of the weekend.

The Alberta Minor Midget Hockey League (AMMA) team previously battled hard in two close, low scoring losses to open the 2018-19 season. Today they face CAC United Cycle here at 3:30 p.m. for their second home game.

“We ended up on the wrong end of the score for both of the initial games,” says Av head coach Terry Sydoryk. “That’s fine, both of them were close games and so now we’re continuing to develop as individuals and as a team.”

The Avs have notched four goals and had six goals scored against them and both games were decided by one goal.

With 34 regular-season AMMHA games until the end of February, there’s a long haul ahead for the team. They practice twice a week and that includes ice time, dryland training and yoga. Weekly they play one or two games, most often two, and may see some additional tournament play.

In March, the AMMHL season rounds out with Sutter Cup north and south division tournaments followed by a provincial championship tournament.

Sydoryk isn’t alone behind the bench and is proud of the contributions of assistant coaches Kris Keller, Tyson Soloski and Dylan Sutton. He’s coached with Keller previously, actually coached Soloski in minor hockey and is pleased to have Gens alumni Dylan Sutton working with their goalies.

“It’s great to have that kind of bench to work with the kids throughout the season.”
