Five unanswered goals in the third lead the Jr. 'B' Silvertips to a 12-8 win over the Olds Mavericks last night at the SLS Family Sports Centre.

The Tips were down 8-7 at the end of two but dominated in the third to put a 'W' beside their first regular season game here in Cochrane. They're right in the mix of things in the central division of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League with a 4-3 record.

Head coach Tyler Waycott says lessons learned from their last game were applied for the win.

"It was huge. We were in a similar situation in our last game against the Calgary Chill and we let that one slipped away. I feel we learned a lot of lessons from that and to be a similar situation and to come out and close the game in that way is huge for us."

An all-around team effort lead to the victory, he says.

"The defense came up huge and there were great plays to capitalize on our opportunities. So I think we were just hungry. We've been enjoying our season so far. It's a tight group, and they battle flat out. They had to battle hard to win that game."

Nolan Oakley and Myles Hamm scored hattricks, Matthew Dyck and Colby Gulutzan each scored two and singles went to Matthew McKee and Logan Ellis.

The balance of their home games, eight in total, are here in Cochrane after spending most of their on the road so far, including a road trip to Saskatoon early in the season, where they won two of three.

It's a tight race in the central division with three of the four teams in contention so far. To the Tips credit, they handed the challenging Red Deer Rampage their only loss of the season in an 11-10 road victory.

Tomorrow, Sunday, May 27, the Silvertips are hosting the Crude. Game time is 3 p.m.
