Both Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) and the Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) boards will in Cochrane tomorrow, Aug. 23, to conduct separate business meetings, followed by a joint informal session.

Cochrane Mayor Jeff Genung says the boards randomly select locations for their meetings and asked Cochrane to host the meetings a few months ago. Rocky View County is co-hosting.

Following the meetings, Mayor Genung says the boards will be updated on the current annexation discussions being finalized by Rocky View County and the town and will receive a tour of the jointly owned of the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre. They’ll also be visiting a few businesses in the community before hosting a social.

“It’s a way of highlighting our community to board members from all over the province and then being able to have the ear of the president of the AUMA for an evening and talk about what Cochrane needs,” says Genung.

The two associations basically represent all municipal jurisdictions within the province.

Recently, Town Councillor Tara McFadden has announced her intentions to run for the AUMA board of directors this fall as the towns south representative.
