Town of Cochrane, as well as Rocky View County, are currently under fire advisories.

Earlier today (October 19) both the Town of Cochrane and RVC issued fire advisories due to dry/windy conditions. Currently, all outstanding burning and fireworks permits are suspended in the County while in Cochrane residents are still able to have open fires but are reminded to be extra vigilant.

Soaking the area adjacent to the fire pits with water is recommended and Inspector Jeff Avery with Cochrane Fire Services says cigarette butts tossed out the window is a huge concern and could lead to a dangerous situation.

Having a fire advisory issued during this time of year is quite common, shares the Inspector. "With leaves on the ground surrounded by a lot of dry, dead grass this really becomes our fall grass fire season."

Inspector Avery reminds everyone to use caution this time of year and exercise care. The advisories will remain in effect until the Fire Chief's office deems conditions to be safe, and we will update when notice is provided.
