As part of Canada's 150th Anniversary, the constituency of Banff-Airdrie will recognize a community member who has made a significant impact.

MP Blake Richards says nominations are now open in the riding to recognize a local community member who's community spirit and volunteerism stand out.

Nominations anyone are open to anyone says, Richards, "people can nominate people who they feel have contributed greatly to our community for one of these awards and we'll have an independent panel who will choose these winners."

In previous years the Queen Jubilee Medals have been awarded so Richards is expecting to see a large number of nominations come forth.

"Again it's a great way to recognize some people in the community, I encourage people to definitely put forward anyone who has contributed."

A celebratory ceremony will be held in summer or early fall to thank the winners for their contribution.

You can find out all the details on criteria and how to nominate an individual here, but hurry, nominations are only open until the end of May.
