The President of Tango Management Group was not impressed with statements made by some members of council.

Tango Management Group has been engaged with the expansion of Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre since September 2013 and they feel statements made have damaged and will continue to damage their reputation and future opportunities.

While President Lewis Riley, kindly denied an interview with Cochrane Now he did email a statement for publication.

"The statements are based on incorrect and incomplete information. Tango Management has not caused the delay in the opening of the Centre. Since the project’s inception, Tango Management has kept the Town of Cochrane fully apprised of all particulars of the project in a timely manner with formal written monthly reports and other regular and up to date communications.

Tango Management is not acting as the general contractor, but is rather providing project and construction management services through a contractual arrangement which has resulted in significant cost saving to the Town of Cochrane. Pursuant to this arrangement, Tango Management assisted the Town of Cochrane in a CCDC 5A procurement process whereby the Town of Cochrane hired all required trades directly through an open bidding process. This not only allowed the Town of Cochrane to seek out the best and lowest bidder for each trade required, but also saved the Town of Cochrane the costs for a general contractor. In addition, at the pre-construction phase Tango Management cut 9 million dollars from the projected costs through value engineering.

In its unique role, Tango Management has and continues to diligently take all available steps to ensure that each of the Town’s hired trades proceed according to schedule. Tango Management has kept the Town of Cochrane fully apprised of all particulars of the Project, including any delays or issues with the various trades contracted by the Town of Cochrane. It has done so through thorough and accurate monthly Progress Reports and other regular and up to date communications.

It was wrongly implied that Tango Management had known for two years of the need for rails but then neglected to order them in a timely way. In actual fact, over two years ago Tango Management procured the rails from the company with whom the Town of Cochrane contracted. The construction process however requires that the rails be field measured prior to fabrication, delivery to site and installation. Tango Management ensured that field measures were taken as soon as the trades responsible for the tank install were completed. Tango Management has done and continues to do everything within its power to have the rails installed by those responsible in a timely way.

Tango Management continues to take pride in its exceptional work and cost savings initiatives it has pursued in partnership with the Town of Cochrane. It looks forward to continuing to do everything in its power to have the opening of the aquatics centre proceed as scheduled."

While no official opening day of the Jayman Aquatic Centre has been announced, town staff are hopeful everything will be up and running for the start of swim lessons on July 17.

There has been no announcement whether the delay will cost the town extra money in overruns thus far.
