Cochrane's new chief administrative officer (CAO) is now on the job and hit the ground running.

Dave Devana attended his first town council meeting on Oct. 10, the same day he started to become better acquainted with his staff. He participated in a senior management meeting, reviewed some town priorities and toured a few facilities.

Exactly what comes next will largely weigh upon the direction received from the new council.

"We're going to get a new council in a week, so I wanted to understand where we are at with the current council and I'm assuming we're going to get some new direction from the new team early on in their term and that's going to guide my work moving forward."

His father was in the air force, so Devana has lived in many provinces and territories over the years, but this is his first time residing in Alberta. He's particularly impressed with the setting of Cochrane.

"I just love the path network. They did a fantastic job integrating all the networks of paths so you can get around town by walking or by biking. There's parks for all citizens, a beautiful river running through, mountain views and Cochrane's in close proximity to Calgary and the Rocky Mountains. I think Cochrane is really lucky to have this landscape to work with. That's one of the thing that really atttracted me to come here."
